Astounding Guanacaste

Guanacaste province owns a slightly different personality than the rest of the country, making it a great place to visit. Here, people enjoy bullfights and bull riding, marimba music, corn-based meals, and coyol wine that make them popular in the whole country.

This place is sunny almost the entire year, and the weather stays pleasant without much humidity. Tourism is one of the main activities in this province, where travelers can do surfing, ATV tours, snorkeling, zip line and canopy, horseback riding, hiking, and more.

In Guanacaste, there are 59 shorelines or so. Some have a very active atmosphere with many stores, restaurants, bars, and hotels like Tamarindo beach. Other shores are relaxed and familiar such as Sámara beach. There are some beaches in protected areas like Marino de Baulas National Park that protect leatherback turtles that nest in beaches Grande, Ventanas, and Langosta. It also protects the mangle forests.

Other protected areas in Guanacaste are Rincon de la Vieja National Park (volcano), Palo Verde National Park, and Santa Rosa National Park (wild area and historical museum). Rincón de la Vieja has stunning sea views and a famous lagoon La Cangreja. Palo Verde is one of the best places for bird watching and a variety of wildlife. And Santa Rosa mixes history and nature because it was the scene of a historical battle for Costa Rica. In Guanacaste, there are important cities such as Liberia that is the province’s regional economic and urban center, and Nicoya that is becoming an economic and services center too.
